The Mego Hall of Justice is one of the first toys I remember getting way back in 1976. I should ask my Mom what made her get it for me that Christmas (along with Batman, Robin, Superman, Spiderman, and Joker dolls; and a Batmobile), because there was really no indication that I would like superheroes or comic books or anything fantastical before then. I had one Batman comic book (“The WRINGER has struck again! Who will be his next victim?!?”), but hadn’t been rushing out to buy any more. So I wonder what made her pick that toy that year and send me off into places I’ve been living in ever since. The HoJ got plenty of attention from me every day, but it always went back into its box every night. One day, I went to get it from the garage to find it missing. My Dad had thrown it away because it was “broken”. I cried for hours and refused to talk to him for days after. He yelled at me for getting so upset over a toy. I eventually forgave him, but still wanted my Hall of Justice back. Years later, thanks to eBay, I found one, still in the box like I liked mine, and didn’t hesitate to bid high on it. The Hall of Justice sits on my shelf now and I still get a thrill to take it out and set it up once in a while.
